Alfredo Morelos left out of Rangers squad to face Hearts as Steven Gerrard opts for Greg Stewart

Steven Gerrard has left Alfredo Morelos out of his squad to face Hearts at Tynecastle.

The club’s top scorer is not even on the bench for the William Hill Scottish Cup showdown.

With Florian Kamberi cup-tied, Morelos was expected to return to the starting line-up for the game that could save Rangers’ season in silverware terms.

He had been suspended for Wednesday’s wonder result in Braga that propelled Gerrard’s side into the last 16 of the Europa League. And although the Colombian has not scored in the league since late December in the 1-0 win over Kilmarnock, he looked to be a shoo-in for the Gorgie clash.

Gerrard made no mention of any Morelos injury during Friday’s press conference and the 23-year-old was pictured training at the Hummel Training Centre.

Greg Stewart instead starts up front while Jermain Defoe is on the bench. The veteran forward last played at the end of January and has been missing since due to a calf injury.
