Alfredo Morelos key transfer condition as Rangers hero awaits Lille 'soap opera' outcome

Rangers talisman Alfredo Morelos could face a fresh sweat over a potential switch to Lille - according to a report.

The 24-year-old has been strongly linked with a switch to Ligue 1 with speculation reaching fever pitch before last weekend's Premiership opener against Aberdeen but fresh interest from France may be some time away.

La Voix du Nord state a £27m deal for Gent striker Jonathan David is nearing its conclusion with the Canada international expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

The publication notes negotiations have become like a "soap opera" but it appears the cash-rich side will land their No.1 target.

An agreement with David was expected to be followed by a fresh bid for Morelos but any move for the Colombia international could be dependent on outgoings.

It's now claimed Lille need either Nanitamo Ikone and Luiz Araújo to depart before reigniting their interest in the Rangers talisman.

Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard has no issue with starting his main man against Bayer Leverkusen is tonight's Europa League showdown with Bayer Leverkusen.

He said: "Alfredo is focused on the game. He is fit to play and wants to play. You will have to wait until tomorrow to see what our team is."

Fresh speculation surrounds the former HJK Helsinki man after the Ibrox side's £8.5m double deal to land strike pair Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten.
