Alfredo Morelos joins Colombian goalscoring royalty as Rangers striker aims to rip up the record books

Alfredo Morelos has joined an elite club of Colombian hotshots after bagging 100 goals in European football.

The Rangers striker was only on the pitch for 14 minutes on Sunday but that didn't stop him from continuing his red-hot start to the season.

The 23-year-old netted a brace in the 6-1 thumping over Hibs and has now nabbed seven goals in seven games in all competitions.

Morelos' deadly double takes him to 101 strikes for both Rangers and HJK Helsinki since joining the Finnish side back in 2016.

The forward, who was a £1million signing for Pedro Caixinha in the summer of 2017, is join fourth on the all-time list with former Dortmund striker Adrian Ramos.

And Morelos has former Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez (106) in his sights with the 32-year-old's goals drying up in recent seasons.

Veteran Villarreal striker Carlos Bacca has netted 143 times since heading to Europe in 2011 but only scored nine times last season, including against the Ibrox side in the Europa League.

But Morelos still has some way to go catch Colombian football icon Radamel Falcao.

The deadly forward was one of the best strikers in Europe during his time with Atletico and Porto and he leads the way with 230 goals in European football.

But Morelos is racing up the leaderboard and leapfrogging Bacca in the upcoming seasons remains a realistic target.

And that's good news for Rangers who are reaping the rewards of the forward's fast start to the new season.

A host of teams have been linked with the forward but Steven Gerrard has saluted his key man's attitude and work-rate at the start of the new campaign.

Morelos will also be hoping his goal exploits earn him a recall at international level.
