Alfredo Morelos issues apology to Rangers fans and vows he'll never let club down again

Alfredo Morelos has issued an apology to Rangers fans and team-mates after his derby meltdown against Celtic.

The Colombian striker was sent off during the 2-1 Parkhead defeat after lashing out at Celtic skipper Scott Brown.

Brown clipped Morelos' heels off the ball and the 22-year-old reacted by swinging an arm at the midfielder and now faces a four-game ban.

It's the fifth time this season Morelos has been sent off, although one was later rescinded, and he's set to be fined by the club over his latest offence.

But, in a post on Instagram, Morelos has vowed to cut out the moments of madness and vowed to never again let the club down.

He wrote: "Good afternoon, I would like to offer an apology to all the fans, my team-mates and the coaching staff for what happened in yesterday’s match.

"I promise to do everything in my power to ensure nothing like that happens again and to give the club and the fans my all.

"Thanks for the support and affection you’ve always given me. Alfredo Morelos."

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard admitted he was exasperated with Morelos' continued self-destruction.

Gerrard has defended the 29-goal frontman to the hilt this term but insisted the money from his prospective fine should go to the travelling Rangers support.

He said: "I'll deal with internally, he'll be punished.

"The punishment will be financial and the money will go to the supporters that came here today. I think that's only right.

"He let the club and his team-mates down again, I can't defend him any more.

"I think I've gone above and beyond. I still love him, I still think he's a fantastic and I'll still protect him.

"But it gets to a line and he's probably already above the line with me and I can't defend it any more.

"I will recommend to the board that he's fined a week's wages and I will also recommend that money will go to the fans."
