Alfredo Morelos injury sweat as Rangers star misses friendly days ahead of Europa League clash

Injured Alfredo Morelos has missed Rangers' friendly clash with Oxford just two days head of their Europa League opener.

The Ibrox side travel to Gibraltar to face St Joseph's on Tuesday and it's unclear whether the Colombian will be fit for the first qualifying round tie.

The 22-year-old has been completely omitted from the squad to face the English League One outfit in Glasgow.

And Record Sport understands the frontman has a fitness issue that also ruled out him out of Rangers' bounce game against The New Saints last week.

Keeper Allan McGregor is also absent for the visit of Karl Robinson's side.

Steven Gerrard handed starts to four of his seven summer signings for the warm-up fixture.

George Edmundson, Joe Aribo, Jake Hastie and Greg Stewart were named on the team sheet to face Karl Robinson's side.

Sheyi Ojo and Jordan Jones have been given places on the bench.

Gerrard admitted earlier on Sunday the quick turnaround between facing Oxford and St Joseph's meant he'd be forced to give the game away in terms of team selection for the Euro showdown.

He told Rangers TV: "Our situation has changed a lot.

"The idea would have been to play two 45 minutes but now I've got to protect certain people who are in the frame to start on Tuesday night.

"So, unfortunately I'm going to have to give certain things away with how I got about it against Oxford.

"It's not ideal but you have to adapt and move on. What I don't want people to do is think when I play a certain situation (against Oxford) that's going to be my starting XI - because it won't be.

"If people want to guess that way there's nothing I can do about it. But the idea will be to play a 60 minute XI then I'll change it to a second XI for the last 30 minutes, with an idea to keep certain people fresh for Tuesday night."
