Alfredo Morelos injury has Neil McCann calling for retrospective action as former Rangers star condemns 'really nasty' challenge

Neil McCann has called for a review from the compliance officer after Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was stretchered off.

Morelos left the field with a gash above his knee in the second half following a challenge from Ryan Edwards as Steven Gerrard's side beat Dundee United 4-0 at Ibrox today.

The 24-year-old was only on the pitch as a substitute for Brandon Barker, who was taken off with a hamstring problem in the first half. Prior to that, Ryan Jack had gone off with a calf injury and Leon Balogun injured himself in the pre-match warm-up.

Speaking on Rangers TV, McCann said: "I haven't seen it too clearly yet, but my initial reaction right away was 'That's a bad one'.

"So when he takes it, it's Ryan Edwards, he wins the ball. Listen, there's no question he wins the ball, but I think the nature of the follow through is really nasty.

"The studs are up, straight leg follow through there. Very like the Joe Shaughnessy St Mirren one, and indeed the referee missed that one also, it was the fourth official that said 'No, he's endangering an opponent there', and that for me is the exact same.

"There could be retrospective punishment there because that's really, really nasty."
