Alfredo Morelos in Rangers limbo as potential Colombia call up sparks self isolation fear

Alfredo Morelos could be set for a last minute call up to the Colombia squad - meaning he runs the risk of self-isolation when he returns to Scotland.

Colombia boss Reinaldo Rueda left the Rangers frontman out of his original squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, but could be forced into a rethink.

Reports in Morelos' homeland claim that following an injury to Miguel Borja the national boss is looking to bring the Ibrox attacker into the squad.

They face a crucial run of games in their bid to reach the World Cup, as they sit in fifth place in the South American qualifier standings.

They face Uruguay, Ecuador and Brazil in the next two weeks - who all currently hold qualification spots.

While a recall could mean good news for Morelos, it could be a blow to Steven Gerrard's plans.

Colombia remains on the Scottish Government Covid red list when travelling, and requires those coming into Scotland to undertake 10 day period of isolation.

Reports had suggested that the number of red list countries is expected to be reduced to just nine later this week, but there has been no announcement from Holyrood.

Morelos previously went into quarantine when returning from the Copa America missing a host of games on Rangers fixture card.

Under current legislation, a call-up for Morelos would potentially see the striker miss the top of the table clash with Hearts and the Europa League showdown with Brondby.
