Alfredo Morelos in Rangers Covid boost as Colombian is given Copa America all clear

Alfredo Morelos has been given the Covid al-clear to play in the Copa America for Colombia.

The Rangers striker had been forced to self isolate after returning a positive test while on international duty ahead of South America's premier international tournament.

He spent ten days alone while his teammates prepared for the competition, which was controversially switched from Argentina to Brazil at short notice.

But Morelos has now tested negative after his period of isolation and could be in the squad for today’s meeting with the Argentines in a World Cup qualifier.

It also means he’ll be available for group stage matches against hosts Brazil, Ecuador and Peru.

Colombia boss Reinaldo Rueda said: "Alfredo Morelos has now returned to the group and we were delighted to welcome him back.

"We received his PCR test and it has come back negative so he will immediately join us for training. He is an important member of the squad."

Morelos will be hoping to replicate his domestic form on the international stage.

The Ibrox hitman hit 17 goals for Steven Gerrard ’s side this season as they clinched a first Scottish Premiership title in a decade.

The 24-year-old has six full Colombia caps to his name so far, scoring once. That comes on the back of seve goals in just the same number of appearances for the Under 20s.
