Alfredo Morelos in Rangers boost as he’s left out of Colombia squad amid quarantine debate

Rangers have been handed a boost ahead of the international break with Alfredo Morelos left out of the Colombia squad.

The striker has been a regular in the national team's squad during his time at the club and has earned 11 caps for his country, scoring one goal.

And he was expected to be named in their squad again for games against Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile next month, sparking fears over more quarantine.

Morelos already missed the start of the season because he had to quarantine for 10 days on his return from the Copa America and wasn't involved when Rangers faced Malmo in the Champions League.

That led to criticism despite it not being his fault and there were worries he could miss as much as four games if he had been included in the current squad.

He would have had to self-isolate on his return to Scotland again and that could have ruled him out of games against St Johnstone, Motherwell and Livingston, as well as a Europa League game among all that.

There were then suggestions Rangers could refuse to let him join up with his country despite FIFA preparing to demand the release of players during the international break.

English Premier League clubs have decided they won't allow their players to go to countries on the red list to ensure they don't miss any domestic matches.

But there's now no need for Rangers to worry about that with the Ibrox striker not named in the Colombia squad.

Morelos is now just three goals away from reaching 100 for Rangers after netting his 97th against Ross County on Sunday.
