Alfredo Morelos in international limbo as Rangers striker snubbed despite Colombia selecting SEVEN strikers

Colombia boss Reinaldo Rueda has picked SEVEN strikers ahead of Alfredo Morelos in a telling World Cup qualifying snub.

The Rangers frontman has bagged four goals so far this season and is set to star against Sparta Prague on Thursday night in the Europa League as he prepares to fire Steven Gerrard's side to another successful continental campaign.

The Colombian FA opted not to call up any British-based stars in the last international break thanks to the UK Covid red list of travel destinations that required self-isolation on return.

Argentina internationals from the English Premier League fell foul of rules in Brazil during the last break too but with the red list now scrapped as the pandemic eases Morelos could have been included.

Spurs star Davinson Sanchez, Everton defender Yerry Mina and Bournemouth midfielder Jefferson Lerma are all in the list of 26 players to play Uruguay, Brazil and Ecuador.

But Morelos has been omitted entirely despite seven of them being listed as strikers.

The 25-year-old has 11 caps for his country and was in their squad for this summer's Copa America. But he played just nine minutes of the seven games in the tournament in Brazil.

And his international career looks to be on hold under Rueda for now anyway.
