Alfredo Morelos in Colombia call as Rangers star faces new threat in battle for starting spot

Ibrox star Alfredo Morelos has again been named in the Colombia squad - but faces a new threat in his bid to become first-choice.

The Rangers striker has made the cut for his country's upcoming World Cup 2022 qualifiers against Uruguay and Ecuador.

Boss Carlos Queiroz unveiled his picks for the crucial double header on Monday and Morelos has kept his place.

There's no place for Colombia's all-time record scorer Falcao, however.

The veteran Galatasaray forward has picked up a hamstring strain and is unavailable for selection.

It means Morelos faces a new threat in the battle to land a starting spot.

Duvan Zapata has emerged as Queiroz' go-to striker and he's likely to continue up front.

But Falcao's absence has presented an opportunity for uncapped Granada forward Luis Suarez.

Queiroz revealed he's been following Suarez' exploits in La Liga in the long-term and felt the time was right for a call-up.

The manager said: "We started talking about Luis Suárez a year ago and he told us that his dream was to play for Colombia. This is his chance to play with her."
