Alfredo Morelos hands Rangers boost as striker misses Colombia duty amid international quarantine row

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has not been included in the Colombia squad for their upcoming matches, as a row rumbles on over quarantine arrangements.

El Bufalo represented his country in the Copa America over the summer, and with his homeland on the red travel list was forced to quarantine on his return to Glasgow.

With Colombia facing a triple header of World Cup 2022 qualifiers next month, it was feared that Rangers could once again be without their star man on his return.

However, clubs in the English Premier League have unanimously decided not to release players for international duty if their country is on the red list.

And that appears to have had a knock-on effect for Morelos as he has not been named in the squad for Colombia's games with Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile.

However, the decision may be a tactical one as despite the stance of their clubs Tottenham's Davinson Sanchez and Yerry Mina of Everton have been named in the squad.

Luis Muriel, Roger Martinez, Rafael Santos Borre and Luis Diaz are the strikers included in the squad, with Atalanta's Duvan Zapata missing out through injury.

And while English clubs are adamant they won't release their players, the head of the Colombian FA insists they have no choice.

Ramon Jeserun said: "Yesterday, FIFA's stance was confirmed by a letter, signed by President (Gianni) Infantino, where he says that the clubs are obliged to release the players.

"Anything else that is happening violates the regulations.

"We are convinced that the FIFA rules are mandatory, they must be fulfilled and clubs have to release the players because it is part of the regulations."
