Alfredo Morelos could be involved in a club v country row if Rangers refuse to release him for Colombia’s World Cup qualifiers.
The striker is set to be called up for Los Cafeteros meetings with Bolivia, Paraguay and Chile.
However, all three are on the UK’s red travel list and Morelos would have to quarantine for ten days on his return to Scotland.
That would rule him out of Rangers’ trip to St Johnstone next month and their home clash against Motherwell, before which they are set to unfurl the Scottish Premiership championship flag.
The European Club Association have written to their members complaining about FIFA's decision to demand all players must be released for a total of 11 days for South American qualifiers.
They stated: "FIFA's decisions were taken unilaterally and against the explicit objection of ECA and the rest of the stakeholders.
"ECA has made clear that it will not accept that a governing body abuses its regulatory function in order to place its commercial interests and those of its member associations above the physical wellbeing of players and legitimate sporting interests of clubs."
Conmebol, the South American governing body, postponed qualifiers in March after a host of clubs refused to release players and could face the same problem.
Morelos has already had to isolate, missing the start of Rangers’ season after returning from Copa America duty.
He spent ten days in a Glasgow Airport hotel, where he was filmed running the car park to keep himself ready for his return to action.
