Alfredo Morelos faces Rangers injury sweat as Steven Gerrard makes striker admission

Steven Gerrard has revealed star striker Alfredo Morelos is nursing a calf complaint ahead of Wednesday's crucial clash with Ross County.

The Colombian is back in the mix for the first time since December's win over Celtic after serving a three-game suspension.

But Rangers boss admits Morelos' inclusion is up for debate and has vowed not to rush the 23-year-old straight back into the team.

When asked is the 29-goal striker will go straight back into the team, Gerrard admitted he is being cautious with his star turn.

He told Rangers TV: "Yes, good question.

"Alfredo has not only been suspended, he's had a small calf problem as well.

'So I need to check with the medical staff what the right decision to do with Alfredo is because we obviously don't want to put him in any risk.

"It's good to have him back available in the squad, we've got a lot of games coming up so I'll make the right decision that's not a risk to the player."

Gerrard also has injury concerns over skipper James Tavernier and Ryan Jack with both expected to remain sidelined for another fortnight.

Jermain Defoe led the line for Rangers in their disappointing defeat to Hearts on Sunday due to Morelos' absence.

And the talisman was a huge miss for the away side as they now trail champions Celtic by five points in the Premiership table.

It's imperative that the Light Blues get back to winning aways against the Staggies as they look to keep pace with their rivals.

Matt Polster is in line for his first Rangers start in five months after a impressive second half display against the Jambos.

James Tavernier is still recovering from an appendix problem and the American is expected to come into the side for Jon Flanagan.

Greg Stewart is also struggling with a calf injury while Filip Helander also remains on the sidelines.
