Alfredo Morelos eyes Europa League goal greatness as Rangers star hunts down Colombian legend

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is already having the third best goalscoring season in Europa League history - and he's in with a chance of breaking a record set by a famous compatriot.

El Bufalo has been in fantastic form in Europe this season and already has 14 goals under his belt - three more than last season's top-scorer Olivier Giroud scored in the whole tournament last season.

The Colombian has also provided four assists, making him the most productive attacking player in this season's competition.

Morelos will be looking to add to his tally against Braga tonight, and in doing so move a step closer to setting a remarkable record.

The Rangers man's goalscoring feats are already enough to put him third in terms goals for a single season - though officially his goals in the qualifying rounds won't count to his final total.

He's hit the most since Jurgen Klinsmann in the old UEFA Cup 1995-96, and matched the 14 Ruud Geels scored for Ajax in 1975-76. Former Rangers man John Wark also reached that tally while playing for Ipswich Town in the 1980-81 season.

In the days before qualifying rounds Geels scored seven of his in a 14-1 aggregate win over Glentoran, while Wark got four against Aris at the same stage, so El Bufalo might feel his strikes should count if theirs do.

Morelos needs just three more goals to match the all-time record for goals in a single Europa League season - and he'll be very familiar with the man who achieved that.

Colombian hero Radamel Falcao scored 17 times for Porto on their way to winning the trophy in the 2010-11 season.

He's also the third-top scorer in the history of the competition with 31, just behind Klass-Jan Huntelaar's 34.

But the greatest goalscorer in the history of the Europa League is Celtic legend Henrik Larsson, who scored 40 for the Hoops, Feyenoord and Helsingborg.
