Alfredo Morelos closes in on Rangers European immortality as he nears Ally McCoist record

Rangers star Alfredo Morelos is edging closer to a European record after his latest all-action continental display.

The Colombian hitman grabbed a double against Lincoln Red Imps to take him up to 20 goals for Rangers on the European stage.

That leaves him just one strike away from Ally McCoist's 21 goals for the club during his 15 goal-laden years in Glasgow.

Morelos has played 33 games in European competition since moving to Ibrox and netted 14 times in the Europa League last season.

The 24-year-old is likely to line up against Willem II next week in the third qualifying round, providing that a new bid from one of his admirers doesn't come before then.

That would take him onto 34 games, which is 20 less than what McCoist scored his 21 goals in - although Morelos does have the advantage of these early European games against continental minnows.

Morelos' Rangers career appeared over just a matter of weeks ago when Steven Gerrard admitted his head had been turned by interest from Lille.

But he's got himself back in the squad and stepped off the bench in the last two matches to look more like his old self.
