Alfredo Morelos branded Rangers 'liability' as unimpressed Peter Grant takes aim over striker's lack of medals

Former Celtic midfielder Peter Grant reckons Alfredo Morelos is a "liability" for Rangers. And in an incredible rant on Go Radio, he reckons the Colombian's fitness means he won't be a huge loss for Gio van Bronckhorst if he leaves this summer.

The 26-year-old has netted 113 goals since joining Rangers from Helsinki in 2017, and was a major part of in the early rounds en route to the Europa League final last season. He helped fire Gers to title 55 in 2020/21 and has a Scottish Cup winners' medal to his name despite only playing 45 minutes in last season's cup run.

Former Alloa and Dunfermline boss Grant, who spent 15 years at Celtic as a player, reckons his fitness has been a big problem for Rangers. And speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, he also accused El Bufalo of failing to win enough trophies to be considered an Ibrox success story.

He said: "People talk about Morelos going to Spain or whatever, but Rangers must be sick of it because it happens every year with him. I've never been a big fan, last year was probably his best period in the European games.

"Colak is a great age, by all accounts a good, mobile striker and I think he's a little bit different from Morelos, so I'm sure Gio will know the players he wants to replace. We've said that before, before anybody goes out, you're sure you want to have people lined up.

"He was excellent against Dortmund but I thought he was a liability prior to that in league matches and cup competitions back here, the bread and butter stuff. I never thought he was fit enough, there was always issues with him coming back from international duty with injuries and whatever.

"For me, I don't think it will be as big a loss as people think for Rangers. I watch his goals, and if someone else comes in there, and they get that quality, they'll get more of a team player. Let's remember how many trophies he's not won in the period of time that he's been here. He's won one competition he's been involved in, so you need your strikers in there all the time scoring goals, especially if they're at Celtic or Rangers, and I don't think he's capable of that."
