Alfredo Morelos banned as Rangers accept two match suspension for Dundee United clash

Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has incurred a two match suspension after the club elected not to appeal a ban for violent conduct.

The Colombian international caught Dundee United defender Mark Connolly with an arm in his side's win at Tannadice on Sunday.

Morelos was shown a yellow card for the incident but incurred a fast track charge from the SFA.

It was ruled that the referee did not see the incident properly and, as it was violent conduct, the decision can still be reviewed.

A two game ban was imposed pending a tribunal on Thursday December 17 but Rangers have opted to accept the charge.

That means Morelos will miss games against St Mirren in the Betfred Cup and Motherwell in the Premiership.

Manager Steven Gerrard had defended his player after the match, insisting that he had not elbowed Connolly.

He said: "I didn't see an elbow.

"If you look at him again, there's no elbow there. The referee saw it and dealt with it.

"It was a foul and a yellow card and it's been dealt with. But if you look at it again, next time I see you you'll say it wasn't an elbow."
