Alfredo Morelos back on Marseille radar as Rangers striker is touted as Mario Balotelli replacement

Marseille could return to Rangers with a bid for Alfredo Morelos as they look for a replacement for Mario Balotelli.

The Colombian is unlikely to regain his starting spot when he returns from suspension with Jermain Defoe in fine form.

And now reports in France suggest Marseille's director of football, Andoni Zubizarreta, is eyeing him as a replacement for former Manchester City and Liverpool forward Mario Balotelli.

Balotelli only joined Marseille in January and has scored seven goals in nine games, but foot-sur believe he could be on his way back to Italy with a number of clubs interested.

The Ligue 1 outfit were interested in Morelos last summer but would have to pay considerably more than the rumoured £5m they offered at the time after an impressive season. The 22-year-old has netted 29 goals in all competitions but his record has been blighted by five red cards over the campaign.

Morelos has been heavily linked with big-money moves away from Ibrox but recently signed a new and improved deal at the club.

He has spoken about wanting to test himself at a higher level, with the English Premier League his main target.

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has also revealed how much the club rate the player as he compared him to former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, who joined Lyon for £19.8m last August.
