Alfredo Morelos and Darren McGregor face SFA rap over stamps as Irvine Welsh Rangers comments probed

Alfredo Morelos and Darren McGregor could face SFA action over a pair of alleged stamps during Rangers ' win over Hibernian.

The Easter Road side are also being investigated by the governing body following alleged comments made towards the Colombian forward by Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh.

Morelos netted the only goal of the game as the Ibrox side took another huge step towards the Scottish Premiership title in Leith.

However, his 51st-minute strike only came after referee Kevin Clancy waved away the hosts’ claims he stood on prone Hibs defender Ryan Porteous in the first half after a coming together on the edge of the box.

The 24-year-old has already received one retrospective ban this season after throwing an arm into the face of Dundee United defender Mark Connolly.

That earned him a two-game suspension and a similar punishment could follow should disciplinary chiefs find that he intentionally stamped on the Scotland under-21 international.

Hibs defender McGregor may also be in hot water over a tangle with Glen Kamara that saw the 35-year-old catch the Finnish midfielder on the shin after hauling him to the ground.

The Daily Record reports referee Clancy did not fully see the incidents and it has been referred to the relevant authorities after TV cameras picked them up.

Both players must be cited before 3pm on Friday if charges are to be brought under fast-track rules.

Meanwhile, the SFA has also requested footage from Hibs’ in-house online channel be sent for examination after Welsh made inflammatory remarks about the striker.

Welsh was appearing as a pundit on Hibs TV's 'The Match' for coverage of the game.

The comments went out live despite a heavily-edited version missing all in-studio segments of the programme being uploaded on Thursday.

It was reported 14 complaints were also registered with the broadcasting ombudsman Ofcom, however as Hibs TV is not a licensee of the regulator, it falls outside of their responsibility.

The Hibees could face a heavy fine if the association probe finds them guilty.
