Alfredo Morelos' agent hopes Rangers star will avoid SFA 'double standards' under new compliance officer

Alfredo Morelos’ agent has slammed the Scottish FA’s “double standards” and hopes the new compliance officer will treat his client fairly.

Michael Gorman represents the Rangers star through the World in Motion agency and has hit out at the Colombian’s treatment at the hands of the governing body.

The SFA confirmed the appointment of Andrew Phillips as their new compliance officer yesterday.

The Glasgow-based lawyer will officially take up his new role on 1 March, replacing the outgoing Clare Whyte.

Morelos has twice been slapped with retrospective bans this season. First for elbowing Mark Connolly during a win for Steven Gerrard’s men at Tannadice, earning a three game ban.

He was handed the same punishment again last month for stamping on Hibs’ Ryan Porteous during a Scottish Premiership win at Easter Road.

On the back of Phillips’ appointment, Gorman slammed the Hampden beaks as being an “embarrassment” due to the double standards they’d previously applied.

He tweeted: “We can only hope that Morelos will finally receive fair treatment in the SPFL going forward. The current double standard applied by the FA is an embarrassment to the game."
