Alfie Doughty transfer latest as Lee Bowyer blasts Celtic bids as 'silly' in angry rant

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer has blasted Celtic's offers for Alfie Doughty and insists they'll have to stump up big money to sign him.

The Hoops would love to take the Charlton youngster north of the border as they look to strengthen their left hand side following the departure of Boli Bolingoli.

An initial bid was rejected while reports suggested a £650k bid was also knocked back by the Addicks earlier this week.

But Bowyer insists Celtic will need to make an offer of more than £1million before they even considered selling the 20-year-old.

He's accused clubs of trying to take advantage of the financial situation Charlton find themselves in as they remain under a transfer embargo with new owners trying to take charge.

Bowyer told London News Online: “People are taking liberties with their offers. They are silly offers which we wouldn’t entertain.

“The offers come to Steve [Gallen, director of football] and then it goes to the directors. The directors have said they are not for sale. We bought Macauley as a project and so far he is developing well.

“If we hadn’t done a good job with him there wouldn’t be any interest in him.

“For us as a club, why would we sell Macauley now? Unless it was some crazy offer then we wouldn’t sell Macauley. It would be tough to replace him. So it doesn’t make sense.

“Alfie comes into that bracket as well. Whatever the offer was [by Celtic] it’s not enough. That’s all that matters. It doesn’t matter if they’d offered £1m if we’ve said no and value him at more than that.”

It's not the first time the former Newcastle star has been left angry with transfers to Scotland after he criticised Joe Aribo for making the move to Rangers instead of Brentford.

He also insisted last week that Doughty is destined for the English Premier League and should knock back any offers from Celtic.
