Alexis Sanchez's staggering earnings from sitting on Man Utd bench revealed

Alexis Sanchez looked to be a great bit of business for Manchester United when they swapped Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the then Arsenal forward.

Of course, the Red Devils had to hand him a whopping contract, but this was only because they didn't have to pay a transfer fee - which at the time, given Sanchez's form, would have been in excess of £50million.

But the Sanchez transfer has been a bit of a disaster for all parties involved with the Chilean struggling with injuries and form, which has prevented him from being able to show the Manchester United faithful what he can do.

The Old Trafford club would probably like to offload the forward in the summer but given that he is 30 years old now and on around £500,000-a-week, there won't be a host of clubs queuing up to sign him.

It's fair to say that despite the lack of a transfer fee Sanchez has been poor value.

But just how much Manchester United have shelled out on the Chilean to sit on the bench will cause your eyes to sting.

According to some alarming stats compiled by bwin, Sanchez has earned more than any other player in the Premier League this season to simply sit on the bench.

The stats show that the forward has bagged £4,881,014 during this time, which equates to 917 minutes on the bench - that's £5,323 a minute.

Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge meanwhile has earned £4,648,207 while sat on the bench but for a much larger combined total of 2,353 minutes.

Manchester City duo Riyad Mahrez and Nicolas Otamendi complete the top four best-paid bench warmers with the former having earned £4,411,053 and latter £3,776,832 to sit in the dugout.
