Alexis Sanchez reveals leaving Manchester United has helped him fall in love with football again

Alexis Sanchez has revealed that leaving Manchester United for Inter has been like "falling in love with football again."

Sanchez left United just 18 months after failing to deliver on the promise following what appeared to be an exciting swap deal from Arsenal, which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan go the other way (who has also now left for Serie A and Roma).

Despite the hype and the obvious talent, Sanchez only managed to score five goals and add nine assists in 45 appearances for United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer soon deemed him surplus to requirments.

After a disruptive summer which saw him return from Copa America with an injury and unable to partake in pre-season, Sanchez eventually left United to follow Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.

The Chilean made his first start for the Nerazzurri on Saturday and had an eventful full debut.

First of all, he optimistically tried claiming a goal after a shot from teammate Stefano Sensi glanced off his back and deflected in but he did manage to get on the score sheet just two minutes later with a far post tap-in.

Despite the great start he would then go on to get sent off after picking up a second booking just after half-time for simulation.

Regardless of the red card, Sanchez is relishing his time at Inter and admits it has brought back his love of the game.

“It was a bit like falling in love with football again,” Sanchez told UEFA.com.

“I already knew the coach and some players, and I think the club is preparing something nice for the future.

“If I’m not mistaken, Inter haven’t won anything for seven or eight years.

“Yes, it was a bit like finding love for football, together with the desire to win something with this club."

Inter have a 100 per cent start to the season and under Antonio Conte look as though they could challenge the dominance of Juventus, who have won the league every year since 2012.

The two sides face each other this coming Sunday in which could be a telling game for the rest of the season.

And Sanchez added: “I believe the coach wants to win everything. You can see it from how we train and how we play games. He conveys his desire to the players and is positive for both the club and the team in general."
