Alexis Sanchez punishes Arsenal once again as Edu's £58m decisive transfer takes major dent

Arsenal have received a setback in their pursuit to sell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by a former player in Alexis Sanchez.

The ex Gunners favourite could make a return to Barcelona from Internazionale in a move that would see Luuk de Jong go the other way, according to Sport.

It had recently been reported that Aubameyang could join the Catalan club after Xavi had registered interest in the 32-year-old.

Due to the striker’s ongoing situation with Mikel Arteta, a move to Barcelona seemed like the perfect outcome for all parties involved, but this could be halted due to the La Liga’s side interest in Alexis Sanchez.

Aubameyang has been left out of three consecutive matchday squads after it emerged that he had breached the club's disciplinary rules.

His future at the north London side looks to be over, as Arteta has refused to rule out a sale for the striker and is continuing to leave him out of current plans.

The 32-year-old’s status as an Arsenal player was further questioned after Spanish outlet El Nacional reported that Xavi is interested in bringing Arsenal's former captain to Camp Nou, in order to solve striker issues of their own.

But it seems Sanchez has quashed this claim after receiving interest from the Catalan club, which means it would not be the first time that the Chilean has disrupted Arsenal in their progression.

Fuel was added to the fire, however, when it emerged that Edinson Cavani is also a reported target. According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Barcelona have been busy preparing a proposal to try and entice United striker to make the switch to Spain.

These developments will certainly disappoint the Arsenal camp and even Aubameyang’s team because a move to Barcelona seemed like the most favourable outcome.

The Gunners need to offload the 32-year-old, as it is clear the club are moving for a more youthful approach, and the striker has been disruptive in this process.

However, a move now looks to be unlikely, and once again Alexis Sanchez has poured some sort of misery onto the north London club.
