Alexis Sanchez loan transfer from Manchester United to Inter Milan confirmed

Manchester United have confirmed that Alexis Sanchez has joined Inter Milan on loan for the season.

The Chilean moves to Serie A, where he will link up with former United striker Romelu Lukaku, on a temporary deal that sees United foot some of his wages.

He joined United in January 2018 from Arsenal in a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but his time at Old Trafford has proved to be unsuccessful — scoring just three goals in the league.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to offload Sanchez this summer and, despite an injury to first team forward Anthony Martial and a lack of depth in forward positions at the club, the Norwegian has been happy to sanction Sanchez's exit.

It is understood Inter have no option to buy and Sanchez is expected to eventually return to United upon the expiry of his loan contract with the Nerazzurri.

The Italian club announced the deal on their on social media pages with the hashtags "Welcome Alexis" and "Not For Everyone", with the latter the same slogan that was used when Lukaku's £72.7million transfer went through earlier this month.

Their statement featured no quotes from Sanchez himself, or Inter boss Antonio Conte, though Sanchez was in Milan earlier today (Thursday) to complete personal terms and a medical.

United defensive duo Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian could soon follow Sanchez to Serie A, with AS Roma believed to be keen on the English centre-back, while Darmian is understood to be working on a move back to his homeland.
