Man Utd's Alexis Sanchez transfer boost as Chile beat Ecuador 2-1 in Copa America

Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez continued his resurgence as he scored Chile's winner against Ecuador in their Copa America clash.

Manchester United are hoping to sell the striker, who has flopped since his move to Old Trafford in January 2018.

And he did his prospects of a move no harm in the early hours of Saturday morning as he continued his Copa America scoring streak to send Chile to the top of their group after two games.

Chile will now be in the quarter-finals after beating Japan and Ecuador in their first two Copa America games, with Sanchez having scored in both matches.

Chile took the lead in the eighth minute when Jose Fuenzalida volleyed in, but Ecuador were awarded a penalty when goalkeeper Gabriel Arias clattered Jhegson Mendez, allowing Enner Valencia to level from the spot in the 26th.

Ecuador, who were hammered 4-0 by Uruguay in their opening game, rarely threatened again and defender Gabriel Achilier received a straight red card in stoppage time for a rash tackle on Arturo Vidal, who had to be taken off.

Sanchez later revealed he had been playing with an ankle injury sustained in the first half.

"After a cross I rolled my ankle but I put a bandage on it, I took a pill for the pain and I came out again," he said afterwards.

"I think I have a sprain, I was playing with pain but I hope it's not too serious."

Sanchez has made no secret of his wish to quit United this summer after a frustrating 18 months at Old Trafford.

He is keen to end his United nightmare, while boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to get him off the wage bill, but the club are believed to have received only two offers.

Those tentative proposals have come from China and South America but United have not received a substantial offer.

And even if they do, Sanchez's huge wage demands could prevent him from securing a move away.

Old Trafford chief Ed Woodward is prepared to fund some of Salary's salary in the hope it will attract more interest in the 30-year-old.

With Uruguay currently second in Group C, Ecuador still have an outside chance of sneaking into the quarter-finals as one of the two best ranked third-place finishers but they must win their game against Japan on Monday and hope other results go their way.

Sanchez has scored just five goals for United since his move from Arsenal and struggled with injuries at the end of last season.

But if he keeps his Copa America hot streak going, he might find his prospects improve for next season - whether he's still at United or not.

Today's Copa America matches see Brazil take on Peru, and Bolivia play Venezuela.

Sanchez, who had ended a barren five-month spell by scoring in Monday's 4-0 win against Japan, put Chile ahead early in the second half, expertly guiding a bouncing cross into the net with one touch.
