Alexis Mac Allister could be handed his 'dream' shirt number after Liverpool move

Alexis Mac Allister is looking likely to be named as Liverpool's first signing of the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp begins his summer rebuild at Anfeld.

Finishing fifth in the Premier League sent shockwaves throughout the red side of Merseyside and it became apparent changes were needed and the Argentine World Cup winner would be a significant improvement on the current midfield.

Mac Allister has made a name for himself in the Premier League during his four years at Brighton & Hove Albion and most recently winning the World Cup with Lionel Messi and Argentina. A move to Anfield would be a step up - and he may even be able to keep his dream shirt number.

The number 10 shirt has not been worn at Liverpool for a year after Sadio Mane departed last summer for Bayern Munich.

However, Mane was first handed the number 17 shirt and had to wait for Philippe Coutinho to leave for Barcelona in January 2018 to wear the famous 10.

The Senegal forward will go down in Liverpool history as one of the best to ever wear the number 10 shirt at Anfield after winning every major honour before leaving for Bavaria. Mac Allister will be hoping to cement his own legacy should his move be completed.

Mac Allister wore 10 at AA Argentinos Juniors, but had to opt for the number eight at Boca Juniors - a shirt he could choose at Liverpool after the departure of Naby Keita.

James Milner's number seven shirt is also vacated, along with Roberto Firmino's number nine. There would be a host of famous Liverpool numbers for Mac Allister - and any other summer signings - to choose from.
