A new walking app has been unveiled in a bid to help residents battle lockdown fatigue.
Alexandria-based health and wellbeing charity The Leamy Foundation, is behind the move to introduce the technology.
As well as bringing ideas for walking routes and sites of interest in West Dunbartonshire to residents, the team behind the Walkabout WD app also hope to introduce guided walks after training through the government-backed Paths for All scheme.
Mylene Colquhoun, co-ordinator with The Leamy Foundation, told the Lennox: “We are a health and wellbeing charity and with everyone being cooped up over lockdown, it seemed like a good idea to get people out and walking again.
“We came up with this app and a website, covering Clydebank, Dumbarton and Alexandria.”
In the pipeline since April, the app and supporting web and social media sites introduce residents to a range of scenic walks to suit all levels, including longer ‘big adventure’ challenges and sites of scientific interest.
It also offers suggestions on quicker, entry-level walks, such as around Alexandria’s Christie Park.
Added Mylene: “We’ve got various health walks, around 20 minutes or half an hour simply to encourage people to go for a walk. They can select locations depending on whether they would like to walk in areas like a park or woodland.
“We can then maybe get people moving on to bigger walks and go up to over an hour and half day walks.
“It’s also really to let people know what’s around in West Dunbartonshire, for example we have seven sites of scientific interest in the area and not everyone knows.”
