Alexandria schoolgirl donates hair to help children with cancer

A big hearted Levenvale Primary pupil has donated 30cm of her flowing locks to the Little Princess Trust.

Emily McCue, six, took the decision after being inspired by seeing stories during Children in Need - and took the brave step last month, despite her proud mum Claire having mixed emotions about her daughter’s generous donation.

Claire told the Lennox: “She had been talking about it for a while since they had been doing Children in Need in school back in November.

“I showed her a video on Facebook about a girl who had lost her hair, and she thought that it was lovely that someone could have her hair.

“At first I didn’t want her to cut her hair because it was absolutely gorgeous, but when I saw how determined she was, I thought ‘she’s six, I’ve got to let her do it and make her own decision here’.”

The Little Princess Trust was set up in 2006 to help young people who have lost their hair through treatment of cancer or other illnesses by providing them with real hair wigs that can be cut, curled or straightened to match someone’s original look.

And they may soon have more donations from Alexandria with Emily’s school friends keen to get involved too.

Claire continued: “She loves it, she thinks it looks absolutely great and me and her Dad, John, are very, very proud.

“She was very attached to her hair, but now some of the other wee girls at school are talking about doing the same - which is really fantastic to hear.”
