Alexandria pupils named young sports stars of the month

Two Alexandria pupils are among those named as young sports stars of the month.

Active Schools has announced Zahraa Nazir and Ellie Gould, both from Christie Park Primary School, as their stars for May.

Zahraa is in Primary 7 and has been a member of UKTC Taekwondo Club in Alexandria for just over a year.

Most of this time has been during lockdown so Zahraa has continued to train regularly over Zoom and has recently enjoyed being back training with her club mates.

She is currently a yellow belt and has shown great determination in her chosen sport at a time when it would have been so easy to give up.

Ellie Gould of Christie Park Primary (Lennox Herald)

Ellie is in primary five and became a member of the UKTC Taekwondo Club in Alexandria when she moved to West Dunbartonshire.

She has been training for almost two years and is presently a yellow belt with a green tag.

Training during lockdown continued over Zoom but she is delighted to now be back training on a Monday night.

Ellie is very enthusiastic about her sport and enjoys sharing her achievements with the rest of the school.

Bruce Hamilton, of St Stephen’s Primary in Clydebank, was the third pupil to also be recognised for his sporting achievements.

Active Schools are always looking for more volunteers to help get children in West Dunbartonshire more active, more often and anyone interested should email active.schools@west-dunbarton.gov.uk
