Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slams US campaign finance system in 'sensational' takedown

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been praised for her “sensational” takedown of the US campaign financing system.

The Democrat congresswoman tore apart the “fundamentally broken” system by exposing loopholes which allow candidates to abuse the electoral system.

She created a hypothetical scenario where she pretended to be a “really, really bad guy,” before revealing how a candidate could be funded by a special interest group before getting into power and creating laws which benefit them.

The New York representative also discussed hush money and how it is legal for politicians to hold stocks in a company and write laws which could cause stock value to soar.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the US' youngest ever congresswoman at just 29 (EPA)

A video of her speech has had almost 10 million views on Twitter, with many saying Ms Ocasio-Cortez should run for President.

Activist Adam Best said: “AOC really demonstrates here that politics don’t have to be complicated when you don’t want them to be.

“She’s making devastatingly effective arguments by not being afraid to ask the right questions and doing so in a straightforward, engaging fashion.”

Conservative blogger Jennifer Rubin added: “This is really well done. If she keeps this up she'll earn her spurs. (stripes? .. whatever)
