1. The old structures of ‘climbing the ladder’ and ‘10-year plan’ are broken. With blind ambition, you are achieving according to a generic narrative of success. But in aligned ambition, you are achieving according to the work that you are uniquely well-suited to do in the world
2. Forget finding your ‘purpose’ — follow your curiosity. Most of us have been taught to regard our curiosity as a distraction from ‘real’ work. But curiosity can lead us to purposeful, fulfilling and impactful work.
3. Get rid of the bad stuff with a ‘life purge’: eliminate anything and everything that you can from your life that doesn’t (in the words of Marie Kondo) ‘spark joy’ even if it doesn’t seem career related, from types of food, to TV shows and friendships. Play a game of ‘warmer-colder’ with your activities, your classes, your tasks, your relationships, your social life.
4. Make it real: get it out of your head and take action, any action, towards the ‘hell yes’. The result is, the more aligned your work is (meaning), and the more impact you will have. The more impact you have, the more value you are offering. The more value (mastery) you are offering, the more money you will earn. The more you earn, the more you can invest in your growth — which means even more mastery and more money.
