Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez responds to college dance video with new one in Congress

In response to a recent viral video of herself dancing as a college student, US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has responded with a new video - in which she again shows off her dance moves.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez uploaded the clip to Twitter, where she wrote: “I hear the GOP thinks women dancing are scandalous. Wait till they found out Congresswomen can dance too! Have a great weekend everyone."

In the video, Ms Ocasio-Cortez can be seen dancing her way into her new office in Washington, DC.

In response to her post, which has already been liked more than 112,000 times, people are praising the politician and applauding her for reacting to the situation with humour.

“This is the most endearing clapback ever,” one person wrote.

Another said: “This was exactly the response I was hoping you’d have.”

The new video from the newly elected Congresswoman comes after an anonymous Twitter account attempted to shame Ms Ocasio-Cortez with a clip of her dancing during her time as a student at Boston University.

The original video, which showed Ms Ocasio-Cortez performing a dance from The Breakfast Club to the song Lisztomania by Phoenix in 2010, was captioned: “Here is America’s favourite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is,” before it was deleted.

Despite the attempt to discredit the Democratic politician, the youngest women ever to be elected to the US Congress, the response was largely positive, with many defending Ms Ocasio-Cortez and mocking the effort to stir political controversy.
