Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been reimagined as a superhero by comic creators, who’ve featured the youngest-ever US Congresswoman on the cover of a new comic book.
The comic book, created by Devil’s Due Comics, will be available with two covers - one with Ms Ocasio-Cortez dressed as a warrior with armoured arm and leg bands and a sword and a variant one of the Congresswoman dressed in a white suit standing in front of the Capitol Building.
The comic, titled: “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the Freshman Force” will, according to a brief description of the comic book, feature a story about the US Congress fighting against the establishment.
In addition to taking aim at Washington, it was created to “celebrate the election of the most diverse group of freshman congresspersons”.
Of the project, which will be released on 15 May, Devil’s Due publisher Josh Blaylock told Comic Book Resources that it was inspired by a “common excitement” for the new Congresspeople.
“It’s no secret that AOC has become the unofficial leader of the new school, and has sparked life back into Washington and that’s reflected in the enthusiasm on display by the men and women contributing to this project,” Blaylock said.
“While we all don’t agree on everything, we share a common excitement for the breath of fresh air the new Congress brings.”
A portion of the proceeds from the comic book will go to the United Service Organisation, a nonprofit for military support, and RaicesTexas.org, a nonprofit that provides legal services to immigrant families and refugees.
Although she has not endorsed the project, Ms Ocasio-Cortez previously revealed she is a fan of comic books when she quoted Watchmen comic creator Alan Moore.
“To quote Alan Moore: “None of you understand. I’m not locked up in here with YOU. You’re locked up in here with ME,” the Congresswoman tweeted in January.
This is not the first time Devil’s Due Comics has turned its focus to politics - in 2016, the publisher released a comic called: “Barack the Barbarian: No F#¢*s Left!”
