Alexandria Motown singer competes in semi-finals of The Voice

A Tullichewan singer who was tracked down by talent scouts after appearing in the Lennox Herald has missed out on reaching the final of The Voice.

Wayne Topley has stormed through the stages of the TV competition with singing partner Morgan Njobo, who perform together in band Motown Brothers.

They were back on screens on Saturday night in the semi-finals and sang and danced to September by Earth Wind and Fire.

The duo were in Anne-Marie’s team and lost out to Craig Eddie who she put through to the final.

Viewers saw Wayne and Morgan being coached by Little Mix star Leigh-Anne, with Wayne saying his five-year-old daughter would be thrilled, saying: “My daughter is absolutely crazy about Little Mix. She’s going to go crazy when I tell her I just met Leigh-Anne.”

The singer told them: “I saw your blind audition and you just make me smile. I just love your chemistry.”

Anne-Marie also poured praise on them, saying: “Wayne and Morgan are a ray of sunshine. I can’t help but smile when they’re in the room, let alone singing.”

Speaking afterwards, Wayne and Morgan said: “We gave it our ultimate best and we are proud to say we were in the semi-finals.”

The Lennox Herald previously told how TV producers reached out to Wayne (left) after reading our story on him entertaining neighbour outside his home with Motown gigs.

Speaking after getting through to the semi-finals, he said: “This wouldn’t have happened if it hadn’t been for the Lennox Herald, so thank you!

“I am so grateful to have got this far. I never in a million years thought we would get to the semi finals.

“We flew through the first part and were so happy to get to the blind auditions that I didn’t care what happened after that.

“Everything else has been a bonus.”
