Alexandria drug dealer caught with heroin and £5000 cash haul

A drug dealer was caught with heroin and £5000 cash in his van.

Robert Cameron appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week and was jailed after admitting being concerned in the supply of heroin on Stirling Road, Dumbarton, in May 2018. He had £180 worth of heroin on him.

The 45-year-old from Golfhill Drive, Alexandria, had also pleaded guilty to failing to stop his van for police as well as driving without a licence or insurance. These offences happened on Northfield Road, Dalmonach Road and Burn Street, Alexandria, in November 2018.

Defence lawyer Ian Brechany told the court: “He had a chaotic lifestyle.

“In getting his licence back he has had to go through a lengthy period of providing samples.

“He had a difficulty with drugs in the past. He has since satisfied the GP that he has been clean of drugs.

“He’s very keen to get back to a law-abiding hardworking role in society.

“He tells me that was on hold because of this matter.”

Sheriff William Gallacher locked Cameron up for 15 months and set a confiscation hearing for later this month in respect of the money seized.
