Alexandre Mendy in Celtic transfer 'offer' as French media claim initial striker approach turned down by Caen

Towering striker Alexandre Mendy is reportedly the subject of a big money offer from Celtic.

The 28-year-old is plying his trade in Ligue 2 side Caen and has been a key part of the sides push for the promotion playoff spots.

The 6'2 Frenchman has netted 16 goals so far this season and is Les Vikings top scorer this season.

L'Equipe report that several clubs are keeping tabs on the striker but the Scottish Premiership side have made the first move.

An initial offer of €3million has reportedly been put on the table as the club look to bolster Ange Postecoglou 's ranks for next season.

However, the report notes the approach has been turned down, but Caen would be willing to negotiate a sale "in the event of a higher offer."

The Celtic striker position has become a hot topic among fans this season - but has also been stretched by injuries.

Kyogo and Giorgios Giakoumakis are battling it out to be the first choice attacker after impressive campaigns, but have also been hampered by injuries.

That has seen the likes of Albian Ajeti return from the fringes of the squad, with David Turnbull and Jota also been tried out in a centre-forward role.
