Alexandre Lacazette 'sets training return date' in Arsenal injury boost

Alexandre Lacazette could provide a welcome boost to Arsenal as he looks set to return to training next week.

The 28-year-old has not featured in any of Arsenal's previous seven matches due an ankle injury.

Lacazette started the season in good form, scoring in the north London derby with rivals Tottenham to take his tally to two goals in three appearances.

However the Frenchman also picked up a knock in that clash and has failed to prove his fitness since, but will join in with first-team duties after the international break, reports the Metro .

Arsenal have won the majority of their fixtures without Lacazette, but have had a couple of less than impressive performances.

Boss Unai Emery will be keen for his frontman to return in time for their next Premier League match away at Sheffield United on October 21.

Arsenal are already sweating on the fitness of on-loan midfielder Dani Ceballos for the clash, after he pulled out of Spain's Euro 2020 qualifier with Norway due to fatigue.

In a blow for the Gunners, Ceballos has also backtracked on comments he made suggesting he was ready to join the club on a permanent basis.

Ceballos claimed his words were misunderstood and added: "I knew that it was an important year, the coach [for Spain, Robert Moreno] has doubts and the one who doesn't play isn't going to be called up; it was a good time to go out on loan."

Meanwhile Emery has been warned he must finish in the top four if he is to keep his job with Arsenal.

Gunners head of football Raul Sanllehi told a fans forum: "We said to Unai that we just missed out on qualifying for the Champions League last year.

“But this year, with a stronger squad, we expect you to do that."

Arsenal currently find themselves ranked 3rd in the table, just ahead of competing clubs Leicester and Chelsea .
