Alexandre Lacazette sends message to Mikel Arteta after scoring Arsenal winner

Alexandre Lacazette hopes he’s given Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta some selection headaches after coming off the bench to score the winning goal in their 1-0 Premier League triumph over West Ham United.

Lacazette began on the bench, with Arteta instead preferring to start Eddie Nketiah up front.

The Frenchman would come on for Nketiah just before the hour mark and he’d prove to be the match winner as his 78th minute strike saw the Gunners close to within five points of fourth-placed Chelsea .

The 28-year-old has now netted nine times in 26 league matches this season.

Speaking after the win, he said: “I’m happy to score for the team. We worked hard. It was a difficult game. I’m happy.

“They deserved more because of the chances they created. This is football, sometimes you don’t get what you deserve.

“It is my job to give the manager a big headache. I’m struggling to make the first team but I’m happy to score again today.

“I know that now I have to play well again the next game. Everyone wants to give their best and it’s normal that whenever we do that we will perform as a team.”

Arteta is pleased with the contribution of both his strikers.

He told reporters: "I have two strikers at the moment that are making life difficult for me but at the same time it's very good.

“They are both scoring, they are both in a good moment.

“I decided to play Eddie today for the type of defenders they had and the game plan we had but knowing that we needed Lacazette in the final moments. He was ready to do that.

“I saw it straight away the moment I was talking with him, giving him instructions on the touchline, he was alert, focused and I could see in his face he was really determined to come out there and score the goal like he did."
