Alexandre Lacazette sends message to Arsenal fans after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's red card

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang picked up a straight red card in Arsenal's draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The striker went in for a tackle on Max Meyer in the second half, but missed the ball and caught the midfielder above the ankle with an ugly challenge.

Despite being initially awarded a yellow card by the referee, the VAR upgraded the decision to a straight red card.

It was a disappointing end to the striker's afternoon, following a promising early start.

The Gabon international put Mikel Arteta's side in the lead early on in the encounter after being slotted through by his strike partner Alexandre Lacazette.

The 30-year-old will now miss the Premier League encounter against Sheffield United at home, the crunch match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and an FA Cup tie away to Bournemouth.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, the Gunners managed to hang on for a point against Roy Hodgson's side, and after Aubameyang had posted his own message to supporters following the match, Lacazette followed suit.

The France international said in a message to supporters: "Never easy for a player to get sent off.

"We didn't get the result we wanted but we'll use this to keep learning and improving.

"Thanks for your support."

Arsenal now sit 11 points adrift of Chelsea in the race for Champions League football following a win for Frank Lampard's side at home to Burnley.

It is now one win in the last five Premier League games for the Gunners, and a tilt at finishing in the top four is looking unlikely with just 16 games remaining to bridge the gap.

However, there is always the possibility of going one better than last year and winning the Europa League, with a clash against Olympiacos in the Round of 32 coming up next month.
