Alexandre Lacazette has noticed something different about the Emirates Stadium this season

Alexandre Lacazette has said that the atmosphere inside the Emirates Stadium this season has been the driving force behind Arsenal's rise to third place in the Premier League table.

The Gunners leapfrogged top four rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United thanks to a 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Monday night.

It's now 10 consecutive home wins in the top flight of English football, the first time the club has done so in over 20 years and the optimism inside the ground this season following the appointment of Unai Emery as head coach has been evident.

Arsenal supporters loved what Alexandre Lacazette did after clinching victory against Newcastle

That's not always been the case.

In years gone by there had been a divide amongst Arsenal fans - mainly over the differing views surrounding former manager Arsene Wenger - which trickled into the stadium and at times the negative atmosphere had an affect on the players.

However, Lacazette - who scored in the win over the Magpies - has paid tribute to supporters for the role they have played in ensuring the Gunners have one of the best home records across the entire division this season.

"Yes I can notice the difference from last season," Lacazette told Sky Sports when asked if he has noticed a change in atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium this season. "Now we may go into the Champions League.

"They helped us get into the third place. We have more confidence.

"Everybody knows what you have to do. When you win a lot of games in a row, everyone is confident."

With seven games to go the Gunners are in the driving seat to seal a return to the Champions League for next season.

They hold a two-point advantage over Spurs as well as Man United and are three clear of Chelsea, but Lacazette insists there is still a lot more work to do for his side to end their two-year exile from European football's elite club competition.

“Not confident, but we work very hard to get there," the Frenchman added. "Now we have to stay in this position."
