Alexandra Park bomb scare - EOD squad remove 'suspicious item' from scene

Police have confirmed the 'suspicious item' reported at Alexandra Park earlier today has been removed from the scene.

In spite of the presence of the bomb squad in Glasgow's east end, it has now been confirmed by cops the item 'poses no risk to the public'.

Meanwhile, the police cordon been removed and the park is now fully open.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Glasgow Live: "The item discovered within Alexandra Park has been examined and poses no risk to the public.

"The cordon has been removed from removed within the park and it is now fully opened."

Emergency services had this morning raced to the scene after the suspect item had been reported shortly after 8am.

Police Scotland earlier said: "At about 8.10am this morning, police received a report of a suspicious item with Alexandra Park. As a precautionary measure, a cordon has been placed around an area of the park."
