Alexandra Burke in shock as she is named Great British Celebrity Bake Off star baker

Alexandra Burke was crowned star baker on The Great Celebrity Bake Off after getting to grips with her 'pet hate cake'.

The beaming singer saw off competition from comedians Tom Allen and Rob Beckett and actress Daisy Ridley in the Channel 4 baking competition.

The popular series, which is a spin-off of The Great British Bake Off, features 20 celebrity contestants, in aid of the charity Stand Up To Cancer.

Actor James McAvoy, former athlete Dame Kelly Holmes, funnymen John Bishop and David Baddiel and Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall also appear.

Comedian Katherine Ryan and broadcasters Anneka Rice and Stacey Dooley also compete in the series.

But it was songstress Alexandra impressed judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith in a succession of tough challenges.

The celebrity bakers were tasked with creating millionaire shortbread and a vegan tart, as well as a showstopper cake which depicted their pet hate.

After the singer was named as the day's big winner, Prue said: "Alexandra just did so well.

"She's a really, really good baker."

Paul then added: "Rob did very well as well but I think Alexandra pipped him at the post."

Former X Factor winner Alexandra said she "can't even speak" after winning.

Her showstopper, which depicted a dog climbing into a bed, was praised by the judges and she also won the technical challenge.

But at the end of the show, Daisy said: 'I'm the dunce in the corner with the bad cake, but I had an amazing time, and even if I'm not good at baking I'm happy to be involved'

However Rob Beckett earned himself a Hollywood handshake after impressing with his millionaire shortbread.

Co-host Noel Fielding was not takibf part in the show, and Matt Lucas told the celebrities at the start of the show: "Noel has recently become a father again so its just me for the next couple of episodes.

He then joked: "I'm a bit upset he didn't have the baby with me but that's my own issue to get through."

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer continues on Channel 4 on March 16 at 8pm.
