Alexander Volkov isn’t expecting Marcin Tybura to stand with him at UFC 267

Alexander Volkov believes he knows what to expect from Marcin Tybura at UFC 267.

Volkov (33-9 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will aim to defeat Tybura (22-6 MMA, 9-5 UFC) and halt his five-fight winning streak. Volkov, who looks to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to UFC interim heavyweight champ Ciryl Gane this past June, believes he’ll have to be on guard for Tybura taking him down and fighting him on the mat.

“His striking became better and better with every fight, Volkov, who’s four inches taller than Tybura, said at UFC 267 media day. “When I watch his fights, he’s trying to fight standup in all of his fights. That’s why I’m feeling he will try to take me down and wrestling with me. I don’t think he’ll try and work with me in the standup, but we will see. Maybe into this camp, his striking became more (important) than before. It’ll be interesting if he stands up (with me). Who knows?

Volkov continued, “My work in this fight will be don’t give him opportunity to take (my) back, to take better position. … I (studied) him a lot. He’s good in the grappling. His grappling and wrestling is pretty good.”

UFC 267 takes place Saturday at Etihad Arena in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Volkov vs. Tybura meet on the main card, which streams on ESPN+ following prelims on ESPN+.
