Alexander Sorloth to Tottenham? Jose Mourinho responds to claims of transfer interest in striker

Jose Mourinho has responded to Tottenham's reported interest in Alexander Sorloth, underlining his desire to sign a striker during the transfer window.

The president of Trabzonspor claimed on Sunday that both Spurs and RB Leipzig are interested in signing Sorloth, who is currently on loan from Crystal Palace.

Sorloth has impressed in Turkey, scoring 24 goals in 34 league games last season, adding a further nine in cup competitions.

Trabzonspor can reportedly sign Sorloth permanently for around £7million before selling him on, and Ahmet Agaoglu has confirmed the striker's desire to leave.

"Sorloth wants to go," he told Fanatik. "But there is no way that we will agree immediately for every player who wants to leave. We are meeting with Leipzig and Tottenham, ourselves and Crystal Palace.

"We are both entitled to this transfer, we will act in Trabzonspor's best interests. This team has something people still don't understand: It grows, sells, develops and sells. It does not sink money into the players it buys."

When questioned about Agaoglu's claim of Tottenham's interest in Sorloth, Mourinho told reporters after Sunday's loss to Everton: "I'm not going to discuss Sorloth.

"If the president of Trabzonspor told that I'm not going to say that it's not true. I think Sortloth is Trabzonspor player and it's not for me to speak about.

"Do we need a striker? Yes. Was it because of that we lost the game? No. We didn't lose the game because we need a striker. We lost the game and the responsibility of that defeat is my responsibility."
