Alexander Sorloth opens up on the stress he has faced during his time at Crystal Palace

It may not have worked out for Alexander Sorloth at Crystal Palace, but it certainly has for the Norwegian striker this season with Trabzonspor in Turkey.

Sorloth joined the Turkish Super Lig side on loan last summer, after failing to make an impact at Palace following his move from Danish side FC Midtjylland in January 2018.

Following his move to Palace, he scored just once in 20 appearances in all competitions, with his only strike for the Eagles coming in a Carabao Cup clash against Swansea City.

He subsequently joined Belgian side Gent on loan last season, before making the move to Trabzonspor at the start of the current campaign.

The most expensive Premier League transfers ever

And he has impressed in Turkey, scoring 25 goals so far this season and attracting plenty of attention from elsewhere, amid transfer links with Manchester United, AC Milan and Napoli, among others.

But the 24-year-old has now opened up on his time at Palace so far, and how it affected him.

“I had a wrongly cancelled goal against Chelsea in one of the first matches. If I had scored, then I might have cemented my position in the team. The following week I was going to start against Huddersfield, but unfortunately, I suffered an injury,” he said, speaking to TV2’s Premier League podcast.

“I tried to think positively, but didn’t get a minute for the rest of the season, even though I was in the squad. It went beyond my self-confidence when I couldn’t play anymore after the first four games, where I felt I had been decent.

“You are judged by fans and journalists for the few minutes you get at the end of a match, which I think is terribly unfair.

“If you are a player who just gets brought on, it goes beyond confidence and you feel you are not good enough to start. It causes stress, especially as a striker.”
