Alexander Dennis tax boss demands one year's notice after Brexit deal agreed

The head of tax at bus builder Alexander Dennis has called for the UK Government to give 12 months' notice of new trade rules coming into force after a Brexit deal is agreed.

Jill Adamson was speaking on behalf of the Falkirk firm to the Lords' EU Goods Sub-Committee on Monday. She said manufacturers were still unable to plan properly for life outside the EU single market after this year because a deal had not been agreed.

Adamson said: "We cannot say whether we're prepared or not, because we do not know what we're preparing for."

Other representatives of the transport and aviation manufacturing sectors supported her call for a year's notice of changes.

Simon Brimble the head of the supply chain at car parts maker Delphi Technologies, asked: "Will we continue to have the same regulations as Europe, and... when will we know? Because we need to make preparations if that's not the case."

Brimble added: "We've taken measures within our business as we had to last year with the possibility of a hard Brexit, and we can dust those things off, but we really need the clarity to understand what we're going towards, and then we can start to make the preparations."
