Alexander Dennis seals deal to build up to 600 buses for Ireland

Alexander Dennis Ltd has signed a single supplier framework agreement to supply up to 600 buses to the Republic of Ireland’s National Transport Authority (NTA).

The five-year agreement includes an initial confirmed order for 100 Enviro400ER double deck hybrid buses.

Falkirk-based ADL was selected after a comprehensive procurement process. The NTA can exercise options for a further 500 vehicles depending on its requirements.

The Enviro400ER is capable of running for at least 2.5km with no exhaust emissions. It uses the BAE Systems Series-ER hybrid system with a 32kWh next-generation lithium-ion battery energy storage system that can be charged externally and meets the requirements of the European Union’s Clean Vehicles Directive.

ADL chief executive Colin Robertson said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Ireland’s National Transport Authority for the supply of up to 600 clean buses. Our Enviro400ER electric range hybrid bus will reduce emissions and passengers will love the smooth journey experience, while drivers are bound to enjoy a great working environment in its spacious cab. This order confirms our strategy of leading the market with the widest range of low and zero emission buses, enabling us to offer the right vehicle for each requirement.”

Alexander Dennis Ltd, Britain's biggest coach and bus builder, was taken over in May last year by NFI Group of Canada for £320 million.
