Alex Telles' impressive Man Utd debut highlighted by contrasting viewpoints

Marcus Rashford and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer opted to highlight different aspects of Alex Telles' performance after a promising debut for Manchester United in the 2-1 win over Paris Saint Germain.

Telles joined United on deadline day from Porto and was expected to provide competition for Luke Shaw at left-back.

But for their Champions League opener against PSG, Solskjaer tweaked his formation to include both players and switch to a 3-4-1-2 formation.

And it was a change which proved to be fruitful for United as they dominated the match and were rewarded with Rashford's late winner.

Telles was replaced in the 67th minute and got a warm greeting from Solskjaer as he walked off.

And after the match, the United boss hailed his delivery from wide areas.

"You can see Alex on his debut, what he’s going to give us. His delivery was great," he said.

In contrast, Rashford praised the defending of Telles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

"As players, it's important to believe in the system the manager choses for us to play and today we did that fantastically," he declared.

"It was difficult at times, especially late on it was tough but we kept the intensity high. We had to defend in the low block at times.

"They have some unbelievable players. Neymar, Mbappe and [Angel] Di Maria. In the low block it can be tough but the full-backs defended unbelievably. When we defend like that, man to man, we can do great things."

"Every game requires different tactics and a slightly different performance. The intensity and mentality needs to stay the same. The intensity was key for us tonight. We're very happy."
